Catalog of Marina Camargo’s solo exhibition Onde a Terra dobra (Where the Earth Bends) at Superfície. The exhibition presented eight works that reveal the artist’s vocabulary in questioning cartographic representations.
Based on the idea that every map has a fictional dimension, Marina Camargo manipulates, transforms, and restructures cartographic narratives, altering the historical, economic, political, and social meanings that govern these representations. Like wordless texts, her drawings investigate the flawed place of these models: that which remains incomplete in accounts of the world.
Spinning her production over several supports – sometimes in three-dimensional installations, rubber or metal, in drawings, photographs, or paintings – Marina Camargo attributes corporeality to the maps that do not belong to the nature of cartography, referring to a sculptural dimension of the forms.
