Globe (the skin of the map)

“By chance, one day, I dropped a globe on the floor, and it broke in half. The printed part came off, revealing a kind of layer around the sphere, which was no longer useful. In a way, this film, the map around that sphere, is somewhat similar to the experiments with Soft-Maps, which are made of latex or rubber and also refer to a kind of film without a body.

This accidental situation of being left with only the skin of the map or a map without a body reminded me of a seminal experience in my work, recorded in Letras Caindo (Letters Falling, 2005). On that occasion, the letters printed on a transparent slide for rear projection detached from the surface, bringing a sense of materiality to something as essentially graphic as letters”.
