Marina Camargo’s work is anchored around ongoing investigations that materialize in drawings, installations, sculptures, and videos. In her work, Camargo explores a notion of displacement, either physical or conceptual. She also uses shifting perception beyond codes and conventions in her artistic practice to provoke disturbances in established narratives.
The relationship with spaces and places is fundamental to the artist’s thinking. It is defined both by the dimension of lived experience —through the relationship with constructed nature/the naturalization of artificial landscapes, the cultural dimension of landscape—and by its representation (observation, transformation, and reinvention of maps).
The act of mapping a space involves a transformative process, turning a three-dimensional space into a two-dimensional representation. This translation is not just a technical process but a series of decisions, distortions, and erasures that reveal the presence of power mechanisms with historical, economic, and geopolitical markers.

Marina Camargo is an artist born in Maceió (Brazil, 1980) based in Berlin. She holds a Bachelor’s and a Master’s in Visual Arts from Instituto de Artes (Porto Alegre, UFRGS) and a diploma from Akademie der Bildenden Künste München (AdBK, Germany).
An expanded notion of drawing has marked Camargo’s research since her early years. Image and thought are mutually constituted, thus structuring the artistic work process. Cartographic issues began to interest her when she studied in Barcelona (Visual Culture—Universitat de Barcelona, Spain). Since then, the idea of displacement has become recurrent in her work.
Marina Camargo was granted a DAAD scholarship in 2010. During these years, exploring different representations of places and historical memory was central to her research.
Her works are in the collections of the Museu de Arte do Rio (MAR), Museu de Arte do Rio Grande do Sul (MARGS), Centro Cultural São Paulo (CCSP), Museum of Contemporary Art—Rio Grande do Sul (MAC-RS), Museu de Arte Moderna Aloisio Magalhães (MAMAM), Casa de Cultura Mário Quintana, (MAMAM), Casa de Cultura Mário Quintana, Fundação Vera Chaves Barcellos, Pinacoteca Barão de Santo Ângelo, Pinacoteca Aldo Locatelli, among others.
